Trainers Cert & Media Academey in the making
And another year is over.
Passed my trainers exam :-)
Which is good as i snowed under with more and more training these days...
Also on the cards consulting and planning for a large post production company here in Berlin.
Trying getting trainees up to speed in Final Cut at the day job.
At the moment I have 7 trainees.
In house training and development of a “Media Academy”
Where trainees get a taste of real projects.
Trying to insert Final Cut Easer Eggs into an existing work flow.
We call it the “production street”
Targets set with 70 clips in 2 months from our trainee department.
Also 150 clean versions!
All booked up with training and other projects until at least March of 2010.
As usual the 5 day FCP training at Bilgi Interface Kreuzberg and Schwielowsee
Crash of a life time August 2009
I have been sitting a lot in Motion recently.
Working on a slick little Template with 3D elements.
Am nearly there. Currently 2.5D level of understanding.
Anyway motion crashed on me. See picture.
Every thing froze up. Nerve racking stuff with Motion Drop Zones.
Seems all very buggy. FCP 6.06 and motion 3 something.
This happened at the large internet video portal where I work.
It is a so called special project. In short complicated.
Nothing lost in the process. Working with lots of copies.
With many layers of dealing with the process.
Understanding how Motion functions, how to manage a project and work with unpredictable drop zones!
Not to mention the human element.
Next week I have an FCP training with FCP 7 material for the first time.
Need to go back to school and check out the new features :-)
happy fcp students April 009

Back in the training seat again after a brief break
5 days intensive final cut or fcp200 as it is know
Monday the 20th April through too Friday the 24th
Had two amazing students, Maria & Denise at the AATC
Maria is coming from a back ground of Theater
She was looking to become a pro editor
Denise likes cameras, fast cars & deserts :-)
After 9 years of Avid he warmed up to FCP quickly
Plenty of interaction & hands on editing
Both took the end user exam and passed with flying colours
I have the pleasure of teaching this course once a month
And it is always amazing, helping the ponies get up too speed
Happy Editing

Last year was a year for seeing many cities in Europe. This year started for me with a trip further afield too New York. A trip into unknown territory which I will not forget any time soon.
New York, was a huge inspiration and once there amongst other things I acquired an edition of photos from a new friend, Udo Spreitzenbarth. The edition is called 8 Spirits, Lost Souls. A big shout out to Matt Lehitka for accompanying me on this journey.
Back in Germany again. And on Friday the 13th of March there is the opening of an exhibition of this series of photos in Stuttgart. For those who can´t make it to Stuttgart, there is a some what smaller exhibition in my flat in Berlin Schöneberg.
Where I will be exhibiting 5 of the 15 pictures which are in the process of being framed. The photographer is to be seen on the photo above. He is the guy with the devil T-shirt ;-)
Friday 13th. From 20 hours. Invitation Only.
RED # 4779 is here!
Waiting for RED is finally over!
RED # 4779 arrived in Berlin on the 2nd last day of 2008! Just in time for the crazy new eves celebrations here. Towards the end it all went very fast. With a mad run to the bank to get a pile of cash to pay for the taxes!
My neighbor Kathja saw me trying to get the huge RED One package in the door of my house and kindly offered to help. She was of course very curious to know what was in the huge brown box. So I told here that it was a video camera. She looked at me skeptically and said "that is no normal video camera!" Which of course is true.
Later Clemens arrived with his set of Cooke lenses and we slowly started to unpack every thing. One of the many ways in which RED is not a normal video camera is that there is no manuel included, not even a CD!
So we followed our instinct and pressed the big black button which is not really labeled as such and the camera started booting. Booting is the correct expression here because the camera is basically a computer! Designed by people who used to build satellites :-)
No big surprise the Cooke lenses passed and we then realized that we of course had to format the memory cards. Thus the first foray into the RED menu! So within 15 minutes we we´re ready to shoot and test. More to follow.....
